Who we are
This website is operated independently as a personal content project. For any privacy request, data-subject enquiry (access, erasure, objection, etc.) or other data-protection matter, email privacy@powersavingguide.com. This mailbox is monitored and we respond within one month.
The newsletter
If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name. We use these to send you the emails you asked for.
- Legal basis: your consent.
- Double opt-in: after you sign up we send a confirmation email, and you are only added once you click the link in it.
- Unsubscribe: every email carries a one-click unsubscribe link. You can leave at any time.
- How it is processed: your details are held in our own self-hosted listmonk instance on our server. We do not use a third-party mailing platform to store your list. The emails themselves are delivered through Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES), which acts as our email-delivery processor.
- Retention: we keep your details until you unsubscribe, after which they are removed from the active list.
Analytics
To understand which pages are read, we use GoatCounter, which we host ourselves. It is cookieless, collects no personal data and does no cross-site tracking. It records aggregate page views with non-identifying details such as the page and a broad country, and does not store your full IP address.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding aggregate visitor numbers to improve the site. Because it sets no cookie and identifies no one, it needs no consent.
Advertising
We show adverts through Google AdSense to help cover the cost of running the site. Google may set cookies to serve adverts and, where you have given consent, to personalise them.
Legal basis: your consent, which we collect through the cookie-consent banner. If you reject advertising cookies, Google is instructed not to use advertising storage or personalisation. You can change your choice at any time using the banner.
For how Google uses data from sites that show its adverts, see Google's advertising policies and Google's privacy policy.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links on this site are affiliate links. If you follow one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We do not collect any additional personal data through these links. The site you are sent to has its own privacy policy, which governs what it does once you arrive there.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Netlify. As with any web host, standard server logs (such as your IP address and browser user agent) are processed transiently to deliver pages and to keep the site secure. These logs are not used to build a profile of you.
Who processes your data
Our own analytics (GoatCounter) and newsletter software (listmonk) are self-hosted on our server, so no third party is involved in those. The following processors act on our behalf:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): email delivery for the newsletter, via Amazon SES.
- Google: advertising, via Google AdSense.
- Netlify: hosting of the website.
Cookies
The cookie-consent banner records your choice. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set once you accept the relevant category.
| Category | Purpose | Set without consent? |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | Remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again. Keeps the site working. | Yes, these are essential. |
| Analytics | Our own analytics are cookieless. This category covers any analytics that would set a cookie. | No, only if you accept. |
| Advertising | Google AdSense cookies to serve and, with consent, personalise adverts. | No, only if you accept. |
Your rights
Under the GDPR (Articles 15 to 22) you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected (rectification);
- have your data erased;
- restrict how we process your data;
- receive your data in a portable form;
- object to processing based on legitimate interest;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@powersavingguide.com. We aim to respond within one month.
If you believe we have handled your data wrongly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données), based in Brussels.
