Why your home might sit above or below the middle
Several things push a home off the typical figure, and knowing which apply to you explains most of the gap. Electric heating is the big one: a home with storage heaters, panel heaters or an electric shower used heavily can double the electricity figure, because heat is expensive to make from electricity. Turning kilowatt hours into pounds
Usage only becomes a bill once you multiply by your unit rate and add the standing charge. Take the medium electricity figure of 2,700 kWh at an example price-cap unit rate of 26.11p and you get about 705 pounds of electricity across the year before the standing charge.
